Rigid Heddle Weaving 102: Mug Rugs

These colorful coasters add a nice handwoven touch to your living space and are a great way to use up your leftover self-striping yarn! To create these miniature rugs, we will talk about warp and weft, learn direct warping, and explore weft-faced weaving. We will go over hemming, taking the project off the loom, and tying fringe at our finishing party. This is a good introduction to rigid heddle weaving--beginners welcome!

Materials list: Rigid Heddle loom and shuttle (available for rental from Yarn Harbor), and weft yarn in fingering/DK/worsted weight wool or wool blend (approximate yardage for 4 coasters=300 yards). Each student will also need a few yards of smooth scrap yarn, a tapestry needle, and a metal dinner fork or tapestry beater.

Cost: $45.00 + $2 material fee payable to instructor

Loom rental: $15 (Please select from drop down menu if needed)
