Helix Knit Hat

yarnharborduluth

Ever wondered how to make a striped hat without self-striping yarn or jogs at the beginning of the round? This technique-based class is a great way to expand your knitting repertoire. Helix knitting is a fun technique that uses several yarns at once to create striped projects, but is much easier than stranded knitting. Plus, this is a great project to use up partial skeins of yarn! We’ll use a recipe to construct your first hat and you can make adjustments for future hats--baby to adult large! Homework: Before the first class, please cast on 96 stitches with the smaller needles and knit 2 - 4” of ribbing (whatever kind pleases you). Materials: 3-4 colors of worsted weight yarn (main color: 75 yards, contrast colors: 30 - 50 yards), 16” US 6 and US 7 circular needles, US 7 DPNs, several stitch markers, and a tapestry needle.
