Toe-Up Socks with a Shadow Wrap Heel

Yarn Harbor

Used to a cuff-down sock construction and want to learn a new technique or two? Have a special (perhaps a self-striping) skein of yarn, but don’t want to “waste” any of it? Then this is the class for you!

We will learn about modifying patterns for the perfect-fitting sock, magic loop, shadow wrap heels, and Jeny’s Surprisingly Stretchy Bind Off. Please note that there will be homework between classes.

Materials: DK Shadow Wrap Heel 2 Ways pattern by Shannon Larson (available on Ravelry), 200-300 yards of dk weight yarn (optional: use a contrast color for heels and toes), 32” or 40” US 2 or 3 circular needle*; safety pin or repositionable stitch markers, tapestry needle, and measuring tape.

*A note about yarn and needles: Magic loop often causes gauge to be slightly tighter. Use a US 2 if you are a loose knitter or are using sport weight yarn. If you are using DK weight yarn (~225-250 yards per 100g), a US 3 might work better. The pattern says that you can use fingering weight held double; Katie suggests doing this only if you are an experienced sock knitter.
