In this class you will learn all the basics of working stranded colorwork knitting. We will cover reading a chart, yarn management, and the various options for hand positions for both comfort and speed. We will also discuss color theory for knitting colorwork, as well as some other tips and tricks so you can accomplish the project with finesse. This class is ideal for those who already know how to knit and purl in the round using a circular needle, but are ready to try colorwork for the first time.

Materials:

  • Pattern: Winter's Fern by Trin-Annellie available in store for purchase or on Ravelry.com here.

  • Main color 90 (96, 102) m/99 (105, 112) yd
    Contrast color 1: approx. 31 (33, 35) m/34 (36, 39) yd
    Contrast color 2: approx. 34 (37, 39) m/38 (41, 43) yd

  • NEEDLES:
    4.5 mm/US 7 circular needle (40 cm/16”) for body (and/or 4.5 mm/US 7 longer circular needle to knit the crown with the magic loop method), or DPNs.
    You may have to use a needle one size larger for the
    colorwork sections.
    4.0 mm/US 6 circular needle (40 cm/16”) or DPNs for brim

  • stitch markers

  • tapestry needle
